As IRS & Courts Demand More, a CAGA Certified Appraiser Delivers More

As a member of CAGA – the Certified Appraisers Guild of America – The Appraisal Group meets and adheres to a set of standards that assure you are receiving the finest service on your fine art and antiques appraisal.  Here is what it means when you use a CAGA appraiser such as The Appraisal Group.

THE CAGA STORY:

Certified Appraisers Guild of America is North America’s # 1 trainer of personal property appraisers.. It is an arm of the Missouri Auction School, founded in 1905. CAGA has been recognized by The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian Magazine, the Times of London, England, Newsweek, ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC news.

All members such as David J. Goldberg must train and pass a comprehensive exam before becoming certified. No one is grandfathered in, assuring you knowledge and personal integrity.

Specialized areas of training include

  • estate and gift appraisals,
  • charitable donation appraisals,
  • bankruptcy appraisals,
  • insurance appraisals,
  • appraisals for divorce,
  • casualty loss appraisals,
  •  Internal Revenue Service appraisal s,
  •  expert witness seminar training with emphasis on appraisals for courts and testifying in court.

As the demands of the IRS and the courts become more stringent, CAGA has increased the scope of its training.

Appraisal Report writing is an integral part of CAGA training. The reports you receive on your personal property – from cars to baseball cards, Grandmother’s mahogany table to a 19th or 20th century painting of sculpture – defines the item and its current fair market value. This document will stand up before the IRS, the courts, and insurance companies.

DAVID J. GOLDBERG BACKGROUND:

David J. Goldberg has been a CAGA member for many years. Backing up his certification is a thirty-five year history in the business of antiques and fine art. Formerly an auctioneer in a family run business that was among the first auction houses in New Orleans, Mr. Goldberg has appraised hundreds of thousands of items. He has worked with hundreds of families and collectors.

An appraisal report from The Appraisal Group includes:

  • A complete and accurate description of the property,
  • Analysis of the factors affecting value reflecting the appraiser’s research in accordance with the standards required by government authorities,
  • A definition of value appropriate to the type of appraisal,
  • A value for the property appraised substantiated by the report analysis,
  • The appraiser’s qualification page,
  • The appraiser’s signature,
  • The appraiser’s statement that the appraiser does not have a financial interest in the property,
  • You should confirm with the appraiser that the appraiser’s report can be defended in court if needed.
